Weekend Parking

My ten-day-weekend didn’t get off to a very auspicious start, in spite of my amazing gold-star Dance Central performance on Friday night.

Saturday was cold and rainy and miserable. Taylor and I went to the bank and ended up soaked to the skin. I had to dog my wool duffel coat out to wear to the farmer’s market, it was so freezing!

It cleared up in the afternoon, so once Sym had been picked up I dragged Taylor around the city looking for nail polish and more Unicornos. Unfortunately the Unicornos had all sold out again, but I did buy white and red glitter nail polish for the Canada Day nails I’m doing later this week.

We also took Kichou and Georgie to play at Emery Barnes dog park. I spent a lot of time there this weekend.

Sunday was another story: gorgeous and sunny and AWESOME!

I’d extracted a promise from Taylor that we’d go to the beach on any sunny days, but we wanted to bring the dogs so we decided to go to the beach-adjacent park instead.

A Floridian friend once expressed disbelief that it was warm enough in Canada to go to the beach, this picture is for her.

As usual, I mostly took pictures of my dog.

Taylor was also there.

As was I. Or my butt, at least!

After the beach Taylor had to go to bed since he had work that night, but I had a whole evening of freedom- Sym was staying over at her dad’s house. I napped, and took Georgie to Emery Barnes again (and unfortunately didn’t take my camera because there were LITRALLY the most adorable dogs there), and finished off the weekend by rewatching season one and part of season two of Parks & Rec. Of course, I didn’t REALLY finish my weekend because I’m off all this week. Yay ten-day-weekend!

Candy Land

On Saturday Sym and I paid a visit to The Candy Aisle on Robson, to buy what else but TONS and TONS of candy. I won’t even say how much I spent there; it’s embarrassing.

Sym choose some soda-flavoured Jelly Bellies and cola Mentos for herself (I think she had a theme going) and some white chocolate Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups for Taylor. I was all about BULK CANDY.

Mini Jawbreakers

These are mini jawbreakers. I KNOW IT’S CRAZY/ADORABLE.

Runts! These are great but I have the same complain as almost everybody else I know: there are never enough bananas.

All Bananas

PROBLEM SOLVED. Yes, you’re seeing it right; it’s like Runts but ALL BANANA.

I also got some M&Ms. I wanted to get rainbow colours but they were out of yellow!

Pretty Girly M&Ms

Light blue, aqua green, pink, purple, light pink and light purple.

Greyscale M&Ms

Black, white and silver (grey). They are almost too pretty to eat but I’m sure I’ll find a way to do it.

Colour Challenge

Clearly, I’ve been really sucking at making these posts. I swear I HAVE been wearing colourful clothes, I just haven’t been taking pictures. But now that I’ve taken the time to make a sweet header for these posts OBVIOUSLY that is going to change.

Another thing I need to do is take outfit pictures with my REAL camera, and also possibly during the day when there is light. Now that Taylor has organized all his camera equipment in such a way that I can get at his tripod without knocked a ton of stuff down on my head that should be doable. Realistically I should just be able to ask him to take pictures for me using all his fancy camera equipment but for some reason I always look like a C.H.U.D. when he photographs me. I BLAME HIM.

Wonderful Weekend

This weekend was SO GOOD!

Friday Night!

Perfect Summer Supper

Hot dogs, corn on the cob & my own personally invented and delicious potato salad:
5-7 small potatoes, washed/cubed/boiled/cooled + 1 clove minced garlic & 3 diced slices of bacon sautéed in 1 tsp olive oil and cooled + 2 tbsp sour cream + salt & pepper to taste
Normally I’m a potato salad hater but this was AWESOME.

After we ate we played a game of Apples to Apples, then I read Sym a chapter of our current bedtime book: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. It’s fun reading these books to her, she’s so involved and excited about everything that happens, and has all these theories about what’s going to happen; it’s hard for me not to spoil it for her!

Saturday was BASICALLY the best day of my life.

Reason 1: summerrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Summer Sun

Reason 2: Opening day for the West End Farmer’s Market! I checked it out with Sym and we got organic eggs, blackberry honey, assorted cherry tomatoes and French Breakfast radishes which were grown on a non-profit farm that’s right inside the city! Very cool.

Reason 3: the return of Popsicle Party!

18°C and super windy? IT’S BIKINI TIME. Sym and I spent two and a half hours on Sunset Beach and had endless fun.

Reason 5: our Vancouver Canucks

Taylor and I watched game two of the Stanley Cup final at La Belle Patate with Leanna, Katrina and Carleigh (who doesn’t have a blog HOW WEIRD). Things were a bit nerve-wracking for a while but it all worked out in the end.

Sunday I woke up with a small hangover, so I did what any person would do: I killed it with brunch. Taylor and I went to Glowbal in Yaletown, one of our favorite brunch places, and they did not disappoint!

my food: a Kobe beef and burrata cheese frittata with potatoes and fresh greens

Brunch @ Glowbal

Taylor’s food: wild berry panettone french toast with white chocolate mousse (should have been organic rosemary honeycomb but we’re not complaining) and a milk chocolate shot

SEE YA, HANGOVER! After brunch we had boring errands to run. Taylor bought a new PS3 to replace his old dead one and I bought a shower curtain rod like WOW what fun. I also somehow tricked myself into thinking it’d be a good idea to try on bathing suits. I know, I’m CLEARLY out of my mind. Anyway I got frustrated and came home and ordered this one:

I have a problem with loving rainbows. Hopefully it’ll arrive before the summer is over; there’s a rolling mail strike going on here!

After we got home from shopping we took the dogs out for a big epic walk, from Sunset Beach to English Bay to the Stanley Park dog park.

Kichou was very well dressed in his little Canucks jersey! We got a lot of compliments on it.

Soggy Georgie @ English Bay

Someone once said to me that Georgie always looks so clean and nice, but here’s some proof that isn’t always the case, she’s a very ocean-going dog.

Now I’m off to go read Sym another exciting chapter from Harry Potter. I hope you all had wonderful weekends too!

Sym on Saturday

Long Weekended

So remember when I was sick on Saturday and Sunday? And it was raining and miserable out anyway? Well, Monday it was sunny (well, half sunny) and I was feeling better! Of course, my house was a disaster so I spent the morning cleaning, and came up with this great plan to clean out and rearrange three closets. I may have mentioned before how my cleaning often turns into mess-making and then shopping, but luckily this time I chose to go shopping first.

Ostensibly I was looking for shoe shelves, but instead I bought some ramekins and a new doormat. I used to have a cool one with a raven on it but my neighbor’s dog pooped on it, and then my dog stepped in the poop and smooshed it in, and it’s not like I can just throw a doormat in the wash. Anyway.

Grape & Pomegranate Welcome

Isn’t it so pretty?? They had a few different ones but I liked the pomegranates on this one. I think they’re pomegranates. I guess they could be some kind of red figs. Also, it was twelve dollars. TWELVE. I can’t argue with that.

Sym was with me and she used her girl powers to sniff out some Tokidoki Unicornos.

Hers are on the left; mine are on the right.

I bought her some new sunglasses, which she wore with her super-fresh pink/grey/black ensemble.

Tiny Fashion

I bought myself some flowers, $10 for 30. And they match my desk perfectly.

Daffodil Coloured Tulips

They are like the daffodils of tulips. Did you know tulips are my favorite flower? IT’S TRUE. Well, it’s true today.

For dessert we had chocolate ice cream with s’mores sprinkles. Yes, you heard me right. S’MORES SPRINKLES. What will they invent next???

S'mores Ice Cream

I never did get around to cleaning out the closets, but oh well. There’s always next weekend!

Cut bread into 1″ squares, mix into your favorite french toast egg/milk mixture- ours had cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. Using a slotted spoon, scoop squares into skillet or griddle pan and cook. It’s best to do them in small batches and keep them warm in the oven- just heat it to 200-250°F and put a rimmed baking pan in it to hold your squares. I also put our berries (straw, rasp and blue) in the oven after I’d washed and in the case of the strawberries cut them, so they’d be warm. Once your squares are all cooked, thread them onto skewers, alternating with the berries (or fruit of your choice). Serve with powdered sugar and maple syrup.
