Just Like a Fire That’s Flaming

Last weekend Taylor and I discovered this AMAZING rock opera about the birth of Christ, located conveniently on youtube in three parts. We’ll definitely be rewatching this on Christmas Eve.

I spy a new holiday tradition in the making!

Variations on a Theme

Honey Garlic Roasted Chick Peas

I really like recipes that have easy tweakability, and I also really like snacking. These roasted chickpeas are perfect for both tweaking and snacking. I’ve made them with the original salt & vinegar recipe, I’ve made a chili lime variation and most recently, a honey garlic variation that is my new favourite thing to eat.

The honey garlic was a little different to make than the other varieties, so I decided to make a real post about it. Also because I’m totally over my once weekly big food-round-up posts (as evidence by my being terrible about even making them haha).

Anyway. Ingredients! (shown here making an assault on Black Reach.)

Honey Garlic Roasted Chick Peas

1 14oz can chick peas
2 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup honey
1 clove garlic
2 tsp olive oil
salt to taste

It’s worth noting here that all my ingredients are either local, organic, or both, except for the salt, which is my own special blend of New Zealand sea salt and two different varieties of Hawaiian Alaea sea salt. Why is this worth noting? Because I’m a total pretentious douche.

Drain and rinse your chickpeas and mince your garlic.

Sharky the Shark Knife is a big fan of garlic.

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the water and honey, and stir until the honey is fully dissolved. Add chick peas and minced garlic to pan. Increase heat to high and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let sit for 30 minutes.

This looks gross but I swear it’s not.

Preheat oven to 425 and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Using a fine sieve, strain the chickpeas and garlic (using a colander with large holes will result in the heartbreak of garlic loss). Place of the baking sheet, drizzle with oil and sprinkle with salt. Roll the peas around until they are nicely coated- I don’t like getting oil all over my hands (I already have to wash my hands 550,000 times a day, why would I want make extra hand-washing work for myself?) so I do this by folding the parchment over them in different directions and rolling them.

Roast for anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes until golden brown. I’ve never roasted mine for longer than 35 minutes, and they can burn really easily so be careful! You definitely need to keep an eye on these.

Allow to cool for .5 seconds before stuffing them all in your face while reading volume 1 of the newly rereleased Codename: Sailor V, like I did on Sunday night.

Perfect evening, tbh.

Okay so I am basically OBSESSED with this pink & blue glitter polish.

Last week I had it over purple and it was FANTASTIC, but I wanted to see it over blue and pink. I couldn’t decide which to do first so I did both! Disclaimer: I took these pics before I cleaned it up because I was working and I was afraid they would chip before I could photograph them.

I love how over blue it looks like pink glitter and over pink it looks like blue glitter. It’s very versatile!

Clearly, I’ve been really sucking at making these posts. I swear I HAVE been wearing colourful clothes, I just haven’t been taking pictures. But now that I’ve taken the time to make a sweet header for these posts OBVIOUSLY that is going to change.

Another thing I need to do is take outfit pictures with my REAL camera, and also possibly during the day when there is light. Now that Taylor has organized all his camera equipment in such a way that I can get at his tripod without knocked a ton of stuff down on my head that should be doable. Realistically I should just be able to ask him to take pictures for me using all his fancy camera equipment but for some reason I always look like a C.H.U.D. when he photographs me. I BLAME HIM.

I know it seems like I haven’t been keeping up with this whole wear-one-coloured-clothing-item-a-week thing, but I swear I totally am. I just haven’t been taking pictures because it’s like HERE’S ME IN SWEATPANTS AND A PURPLE TANK TOP! and that’s not exciting. I still don’t have many coloured clothes and I had to spend a big portion of my shopping budget on new jeans (and as we all know, denim is a neutral). HOWEVER. I went shopping with my friend Carleigh today and got two new shirts, both button downs, both INSANE, like clothes a crazy person would wear.

Colour Challenge Sweet Floral Blouse

This one is from Zara and it’s enormous and it has pockets, like pockets nt he sides for you to put your hands in. It’s super light and summer-y and I can’t wait until it’s summery out enough to wear it with some ratty old cutoffs like it’s meant to be (note to self: acquire ratty old cutoffs).

Mt other shirt is even crazier but I’m not going to show it until I actually wear. It’s also worth noting that the whole time we were shopping, everything I tried on was brightly coloured, except a grey tank top with a kind of Southwestern-looking geometric pattern in rainbow colours and a black coat, which I only tried on because the only other colour it came in was yellow, which I think looked weird with my blonde hair. Anyway I didn’t buy either of them.
