Long Weekend of the Gods

This (Canadian) Thanksgiving weekend I am thankful for AN AWESOME WEEKEND.

Friday night Taylor and I watched Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, in part one of our Six Weeks of Potter Films before the first part of The Deathly Hallows comes out.

On Saturday I was amazed to have a whole actual day of no appointments. No dentists, vets or hairdressers. Also no Symphony because she was away with her dad for the whole weekend, so I could basically just do whatever I wanted! Taylor and I went down to Barking Babies in Yaletown so I could buy some poop bags for Georgie (I accidentally got the wrong ones though) and I found the best thing there! Just a couple of days earlier I was complaining to Taylor how impossible it is to find plain dog clothes- everything either says “princess” or “bitch” all over it or is covered in rhinestone skulls. Or all three. This is not a look I want for my dog! Anyway, look what I found:

Georgie's Hoodie

A plain dog hoodie? And it’s grey?? Pinch me. They also had a brown one, which I got for Halloween costume reasons.

In the afternoon I had a nap and then I had to pick up wine and get ready for my friend Jade’s bachelorette party. I had no idea what kind of party to expect but the answer was like, super cool girl party. It was in this weird place out in East Van that I think maybe used to be a dentist’s office.

There was a theatre room with black and white movies playing, a dress up room with all kinds of sparkly clothes and wigs and stuff, tons of food and silly penis games. We played “Pin the Macho on the Man” (I came in second) and there was also a team zucchini penis carving contest (again, I came in second with my penis-carving partner, Amanda). We danced to Guns’n’Roses and The Ronettes and I drank my own weight in pink champagne.

Guess which zucchenis is mine.

The bride-to-be and I. This was during dress up time, those hot pink fishnets were my second place penis-carving prize.

After calling for cabs for 45 minutes I finally managed to flag one down and came home to a slightly drunk Taylor and a puppy who was so excited to see me she ran out of the house. I always panic and freeze up when she does that because I’m scared she’s going to just run away and I’ll never catch her, but somehow with my liquid courage I was able to scoop her right up. We all snuggled up on the couch and watched tv and ordered pizza and had a cozy, boozy time. Unfortunately I was unable to make it to the bedroom for fear of vomiting so I ended up sleeping on the couch. Taylor didn’t want to leave me alone so he slept on the living room floor. So sweet!

Sunday morning we woke up early to walk the dogs and give Claire her insulin, but after that it was straight back to bed for me! I ended up sleeping in until eleven (this never happens) and after some quick house tidying Taylor and I took the dogs down to the Emery Barnes dog park again. It was supposed to rain all day but it ended up being super sunny and hot (instead it’s raining today) and Georgie and Kichou (and Taylor and I) had so much fun! I think the only thing I don’t like about that dog park is the other dog owners can be pretty aloof and bitchy- up here at Nelson Park people are always chatty and want to talk to you about your dog and the neighborhood and whatever, but whenever I try to talk to someone in Yaletown the just give me one word answers and move away. Oh well. Georgie likes it.

This puppy was so cute and friendly but it’s owner made a nasty face every time Kichou barked. Like, he’s a DOG in a DOG PARK. Get over it!

This Frenchy was SO sweet but SO slobbery!

Georgie was the happiest puppy. If you want more happy puppies there are zillions more dog park & Seawall pictures on Taylor’s flickr.

After a while Taylor started to get crabby and wanted to go straight home, but I convinced him to let me get some snacks for us and to walk along the Seawall instead, and I’m glad I did. It was so beautiful out! We walked all the way from the east end of Davie Street around to English Bay, and then stopped at Mr Kumpir on Denman for baked potatoes (it’s a baked potato restaurant).

Taylor didn’t want me to take any pictures of him so this was the compromise. Also, I’m not wearing a lick of make up here so like, enjoy my pores.

Since today is a holiday, that meant Taylor didn’t have to go to work last night. Instead of him going to bed as soon as we got home, he got to stay up and hang out, which was awesome. We read and ate junk food and watched tv and it was just so nice and comfortable. Recently we’ve both been so exhausted and crabby and stressed from work that I feel like I haven’t had much quality husband time, so it was great to just be together, you know?

Today I got up early for Claire and then went straight back to bed again. When I got up we walked the dogs and went for brunch, then spent the whole afternoon just doing nothing. Taylor has to go to bed now so I’m going to finish up the laundry and read until Sym gets home and it’s back to real, regular life. I feel refreshed though. I really needed this weekend!

  1. omg georgie in the grey hoodie! i am dying.

  2. Thanks for reblogging my attempt to get your attention, I’ll be a little bit more subtle and respond in a comment now. I couldn’t remember your username for the life of me and it seems I don’t know how to navigate LJ anymore. Also Sym was a baby when I first found you on the internets and now she is apparently a grown-ass child and that’s crazy. But I guess this makes sense because back then I was a whining 13-year-old and I suppose I am a grown-ass woman. Sweet unicorn blog, I like it.
